Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – A Wildlife Spectacle
Distance: 110.33 KM | Travel Time: 2 hours
After a delicious breakfast at 8:30 AM, we embark on a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park. Our journey takes us through the vibrant city of Arusha, transitioning into picturesque arid landscapes, charming villages, and fertile farmlands. Experience the unique blend of modern and traditional Tanzania as we make our way to the park. Upon arrival, we’ll immediately begin our game drive, exploring this wildlife haven. Tarangire is renowned for its diverse animal populations, especially during the dry season, attracting a wide array of species, including rare and endangered ones.
The Tarangire River, from which the park derives its name, meanders through forests, bushes, and plains, feeding into swamps, marshes, and small lakes. These water sources sustain a rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. The landscape is adorned with magnificent African baobab trees, various acacia species, and other indigenous flora, providing food and habitat for countless animals. Expect to encounter a diverse range of wildlife, including:
- Herbivores: Elephants, giraffes, black rhinos, buffalo, zebras, elands, greater kudus, wildebeests, gazelles, gerenuks, dik-diks, duikers, and more.
- Omnivores: Baboons, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, civets, bushbabies, and others.
- Carnivores: Lions, leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, serval cats, caracals, hyenas, mongooses, and more.
- Birds: Over 400 species, including birds of prey, ostriches, herons, egrets, pigeons, turacos, hoopoes, wild fowls, sandgrouse, plovers, finches, weavers, woodpeckers, rollers, and flycatchers.
Our tour will immerse you in this incredible wildlife spectacle, offering opportunities to observe and capture breathtaking moments. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire campsite.
